How do I get S-EBT/SUN Bucks?

If your household already participates in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Ohio Works First (OWF), or your student is approved by your school for free and reduced priced meals through direct application, your child will be automatically enrolled in the Summer EBT/SUN Bucks program. You do not need to fill out an application. You will get a card in the mail, or the benefits will be added to your Ohio Direction Card. Most households with children that participate in Medicaid will also automatically be enrolled, depending on your household income when you applied for Medicaid.

If you are not automatically enrolled and believe your child(ren) are eligible, you can apply for Summer EBT/SUN Bucks by filling out a simple application.

If your student is not currently enrolled in SNAP but they have applied for free school meals by application and been approved based on your household income, they will be automatically enrolled and a card with their benefits will be mailed.

If your student is not currently enrolled in SNAP but does benefit from Medicaid, they may be automatically enrolled if your household income was at or below a certain level when you applied for Medicaid. If they are automatically enrolled, a card with their benefits will be mailed. If they are not, they may still be eligible based on your current household income, and you can fill out an application.

If your student is not currently enrolled in SNAP OR Medicaid and attends a school that offers free school meals to all students, your child(ren) will not be automatically enrolled but may be eligible based on your household income and your household would need to fill out an application.

If your student is not currently enrolled in SNAP or Medicaid because of fear of public charge, even though your household is income eligible, please know that Summer EBT has no impact on public charge and is available to all students regardless of citizenship status. You will need to fill out an application to receive this benefit for your child(ren).
